Weather station

Davis VP2/Meteobridge

The Integrated Sensor Suite (ISS) collects outside weather data and sends the data to a Vantage Pro2 console. This Wireless ISS is solar powered and sends data to the console via a low-power radio.

This standard version of the ISS contains a rain collector, temperature sensor, humidity sensor and anemometer. Temperature and humidity sensors are mounted in a passive radiation shield to minimize the impact of solar radiation on sensor readings. There is also a solar powered fan drawing air through the shielding to help improve sensor readings.
Being solar powered, this fan only operates during hours when the sun is on it and there is no fan operation at night. The anemometer measures wind speed and direction and is installed on a mast on the roof of my house and connected to the ISS via a cable.

The Vantage Pro2 Weather Station console displays and records the station’s weather data, provides graph and alarm functions, and interfaces to a computer
using a TP-Link MR-3020 running Meteobridge. The wireless Vantage Pro2 station transmits outside sensor data from the ISS to the console via a low-power radio.

The station is mounted on the south side of my house seven feet above my deck. It's about five feet below the roof line. The anemometer is mounted on a mast about four feet above the roofline. The area I live in is surrounded by trees which significantly affects the wind reaching the roof and anemometer. It also keeps the entire area pretty well shaded - especially in the summer.
In operation since: 2007-05-20 (6207 days)
Console - A/C or 3xC batteries, sensors solar power/charger with 1xCR-123A 3-volt battery
